WA Heritage Professional Award Winner 2022

Congratulations to the Hertiage Skills Association WA foundation member Dr Ingrid van Bremen, adjunct Senior Lecturer University of Western Australia Design School, winner of the 2022 WA Heritage Awards Professional category.


Dr Ingrid van Bremen has contributed to the conservation of WA's heritage for over 35 years through her professional practice and teaching role at the University of Western Australia, where she established and continues to lecture in the Graduate Certificate in Architectural Conservation. 

Dr van Bremen has researched and written a series of books on the history of Western Australian building construction. This publication series of Roofs (2013), Walls (2016) and Floors and Ceilings (2020) is an invaluable resource for local heritage practitioners. She continues to undertake vital research into Western Australian construction, materials and conservation techniques to inform best practice conservation outcomes.


Dr van Bremen is registered with the Australian Institute of Architects and holds memberships with International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), Association for Preservation Technology (APTI), the National Trust of Australia (WA), and the Australian Garden History Society.


Dr van Bremen has an unparalleled passion for the conservation of the State’s historic built environment that is passed on to all her students. Her legacy of supporting emerging heritage professionals, capacity building and the advancement of education, research, skills and practice delivers significant benefit to supporting exemplary heritage outcomes in Western Australia.
